My reflection

I have attended EIR class for almost four months and it really has been a learning experience for me as I have learnt how to do my research properly and effortlessly. Throughout the whole of EIR cds, the most important lesson that I have attended is the lesson on evaluating on the search engines. I have been taught on how to evaluate the website using the skill access the coverage as I thought that it is really a very important skill that we have to use in order to minimise out time wastage on searching relevant information that we need, especially when it comes to the research topic that I have been doing all along since the start of the CDS. This subject is like a wave where there are ups and downs during the lesson. Being a lazy student, which I admit, I realised that I have been rushing through my portfolio as I didn't pay attention to the lesson. But I managed to finish my portfolio in the end. Up till now I realised that effective internet research is a very important skill whereby we need to use it in our daily lives over at the working world in future. So I really thank my tutor for teaching me so many things to my benefits.

When I attended the lesson on website evaluation, my tutor was teaching us how to evaluate by using these criterias:

1. Identify the purpose of a source
2. Access the coverage
3. Access the authority and reputation
4. Access the currency and maintainance of source
5. Consider the accessibility
6. Evaluate the presentation and arrangement of information
7. Access the navigation capabilities
8. Make comparison with other sources
9. Access the overall quality of the source

So I use access the coverage as the criteria regarding my research topic and apparently it works for me very well as the information that I need for my research topic is relevant for me to research on.

My dream holiday

My dream holiday is Maldives.

Maldives is the place for me to go on a holiday as I've never been there before. I heard from people saying that Maldives is one place that we should never miss out for holidays as Maldives is a very good place for relaxation whereby we can go for scuba diving or snorkelling. The colour of the ocean is really very beautiful as it comprises of light and dark blue, lighting up the whole island up in the middle of the ocean. When people go for scuba diving or snorkelling, there are a lot of colourful coral reefs and sand bars, and wonderful hotel facilities for women to go for spas and jacuzzis.

I used wikipedia as my source of evaluation where it introduces and covers the information of Maldives, the origin of Maldives, how many islands surrounding the ocean that creates Maldives etc. Plus, I used access the coverage as my evaluation criteria as it gives me a lot of relevant informations regarding my dream holiday destination. I chose Maldives as my dream holiday destination as I can feel that Maldives give me a very relaxed feeling when I am living in such a hectic world and environment. I really need the relaxation and Maldives is the only place for me to go and relax. I loved the ocean and the beach very much. This kind of relaxing feeling is the only feeling that none of the countries can ever give me because Maldives consists of nature mostly.

What criteria did i use to evaluate stomp. sg

I used access the coverage, access maintainance and currency of source, make comparison with other sources, evaluation of the presentation and arrangement of the sources to evaluate the website www.stomp.sg. When i used access the coverage, I realised that stomp.sg actually covers a lot of updated news for people to go and visit or even provide latest news for the locals to read from in order to know what is happening around us in our everyday lives. During lessons, we were taught on how to evaluate a website whether it is useful in the access of coverage, therefore I think that this criteria really helps us in evaluating the website in order for us to search for the news that we wanted effortlessly.

I did not comment on this activity over at wiki as i did not have the time to go and do so due to my heavy workload that the school has given me. But I feel that stomp.sg is a good website for people to go and take a look as it really covers a lot of news that we did not hear over the television. Plus, there are also tabloid news for people to read from whenever they are bored, examples would be celebrity news from all over the world.
